It's that time of year again! Homemade tamales and youth video essays, all wrapped up into one fabulous night!
Enjoy a plate of homemade tamales and Mexican food as you watch the video essays created by students from North Tahoe and Truckee High. ARC participants are working hard, preparing their video essays on topics of concern to our community. Here's a preview of the videos you'll see: Zulema examines the issue of violence in the home; Gabriel covers the fact that only small numbers of North Tahoe Latinos go to college; Gaby investigates why, with adequate information available for prevention, teen pregnancy continues to be an issue in our community; Wendy looks at teen pregnancy from the mom's point of view; Roxana looks at why Latinos tend not to enroll in AP classes; Daniel believes we need to address the lack of transportation in our community; and Imelda searches for ways to integrate the Anglo and Latino populations. These youth voices are significant messages about the social fabric of our community. Together, let's listen!

Sagehen Creek Public Poetry Reading

On Thursday, July 30th, Adventure Risk Challenge will host its 6th Annual Public Poetry Reading at the Sagehen Creek Field Station.

We would like to invite the community to attend this magical event, where local youth share poems they wrote during the first two weeks of ARC's 40-day summer course. Their poems are raw and insightful, and for many of these students, this is not only the first time they have written poems in English, but the first opportunity to share their emotions this deeply.

As a special thank-you for your attendance, we will have a pre-reading “FriendRaiser” reception starting at 6 p.m. Members of ARC's Advisory Council and our Director will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the program and will be happy to connect you with others who are passionate about our local youth.

We look forward to spending this evening with you and supporting local youth!
